THE MIGHTY CITIZEN

Friday, the fourth of October, 2019 in the middle of Hallonbergen´s lively center filled with weekend shoppers, we staged a public series of presentations and discussions under the common theme – ”The Mighty Citizen”. We were responsible for the afternoon session, that was arranged together with RISE, Balder, Kairos Future, and SES. Researchers, artists and various professionals within the public sphere presented their reflections on the theme. Michael and Erik spoke about our strategy for increasing citizen participation in public space by a radical mixing of programs and introducing new networks of small-scale spaces and activities into the urban fabric that weave together existing spaces and increase connectivity.

The morning session, that was organized by Kairos Future was an invited workshop with approximately 100 participants – architects, social entrepreneurs, landscape architects, urban planners and civil servants from the planning community, in which we worked in groups to exchange experiences and develop new ways of working together beyond the sometimes short-term, project-based formats we are so used to.

The day ended with the inauguration of a public artwork in Hallonbergen’s center – “Kökets torg” (the Kitchen Square), a project initiated byt SES (Studio Elin Strand Ruin) that was built through dialogue and activities on site together with the citizens of Hallonbergen.
